Founded by Ammar Steven Alshash in 2003, Dwelling Designs is an award-winning residential interior design firm as well as a contemporary furniture boutique studio located in the North Loop district of downtown Minneapolis. We are passionate about contemporary, transitional, and modern residential design. Our design philosophy is simple: Great relationships with clients leads to great design. Dwelling Designs is proud to have its designs featured in numerous showcase homes around the country as well as television shows, ad campaigns, and national music videos. Ammar Steven Alshash
Ammar has over 20 years’ experience in the design world. His design background stems from his interest and passion for world travel, product design, and a family background rich in residential and commercial interior design work. After working as a collaboration design manager for a Fortune 500, Ammar left the corporate experience in 2002 and traveled extensively through Western Europe, South America, and South-East Asia, returning to Minnesota for good in 2003 with the vision for a studio centered on contemporary design with global influences. After collaborating with designers and entrepreneurs, while combining his work experiences and personal passions, Ammar is now successfully living his dream operating the Dwelling Designs studio. Ammar has also consulted and worked in television for HGTV and the DIY Channel. Ammar has his Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College. When not designing, Ammar enjoys painting artwork, playing golf, and spending time with friends and family.
Rachel Drewitz
Rachel is an experienced interior designer within the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul community. Her philosophy in design was cultivated from her early exposure to the arts, as well as her passion and continued education in design, culture, and travel. As a result, she excels at grasping any design style placed in front of her, blending classics with a creative twist and shaping spaces that incorporate familiar comforts while still being fresh and original.
With her relentless work ethic and attention to detail, Rachel works tirelessly to provide a personalized, transparent and extraordinary experience for all her clients. This approach has developed strong relationships with each of her clients, vendors, contractors, and builders, serving as the cornerstone of ensuring all the details come together seamlessly.
When she’s not designing you can find Rachel at home with her partner Chase, and their beloved dog Rooney, cooking up new recipes in the kitchen or planning their next hiking adventure!
Rachel holds a B.S. in Interior Design from the University of Minnesota and a M.A in Cultural and Creative Industries from King’s College London. Her designs and collaborations have been featured in Midwest Home, Houzz, Artful Living, Lake Society Magazine and Mpls. St. Paul Magazine.
Hania Curry
Studio Manager
With a BS degree in Hospitality management from Iowa State University and over 10 years of management experience in the retail and service industry, Hania joined the team part-time in 2018 to assist with reinforcing Dwelling Designs’ goal of not only providing the best in design, but also strong professionalism in services for our clients.
